The Pool Operators Club was created by Andrew Gaffey and Martyn Hardy, who are independent pool consultants and experienced pool plant tutors. Together, they have over 80 years of experience in commercial pool water treatment, facility operations, and management. Over recent years, Andy and Martyn spoke with many pool operators and found that they often needed additional guidance and advice for their technical and everyday operations. Many operators were looking for help without wanting to pay high consultancy fees or search multiple sources for information. The idea of the Pool Operators Club was born!

Andrew Gaffey has 40 years’ of experience in the commercial pool water treatment industry, specialising in pool water treatment engineering, chemical dosing and control. He has trained hundreds of contractors and pool operators over the years and has delivered training and technical presentations at pool industry seminars and events in the UK and overseas.
Andrew founded his own commercial pool water treatment consultancy, Andrew Gaffey Ltd, in 2020. He is an STA Pool Plant Tutor, a member of the Institute of Swimming Pool Engineers, the Water Management Society, and the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG).
Martyn Hardy has 44 years’ experience in the leisure industry; 25+ years of working for local authorities in Wales, many of which were in senior management positions, and eight gratifying years working in the private sector for Water Babies Ltd, the largest provider of baby swimming lessons in the world, as their Head of Operations, Pools and Estates.
In 2017 Martyn founded his own commercial pool consultancy and training business, Pool Oracle. Martyn is also a highly experienced Senior Pool Plant Tutor and Tutor Trainer with the STA (Safety Training Awards) and a technical member of IOSH. Martyn has a wealth of experience and knowledge to share, supported by his membership of recognised professional organisations.
Robbie Phillips - Contributor & Technical Advisor
Robbie has over 50 years of senior experience in municipal and private leisure pool management, working in both a contracting and a client capacity. Robbie operated his own highly successful swim-school, later launching his own pool consultancy business. He is a senior pool plant tutor-trainer and consultant for the STA (Safety Training Awards), playing a lead role in developing Pool Plant Operator and related qualifications. Robbie brings with him a wealth of expertise and wisdom for the benefit of the Pool Operators Club and its members.
